Block KON-12 is located in the onshore Kwanza Basin to the east of Block KON-11, some 110 km South from Luanda. Its area size is 1,024 km. Exploration in the block started in the late 1950s leading to a marginal discovery at Pitchi.
The Galinda field structure extends into the block as now defined. The block is situated over the Albian/Aptian carbonate platform domain, separated from the Tertiary trough area to the South by Sao Braz Transfer Zone.
The principal discoveries on the block, at Galinda and Pitchi, are in Aptian age Binga carbonates developed here as sandy calcarenites. This block hosts an Aptian Binga play system that needs to be further investigated by recognizing new leads defined by modern seismic data.
